Friends of southwest playgrounds

What Developers Can Do

WE WANT Private developers and city programs to finance the construction of these particular playgrounds, as part of the development taking place in near Southeast and the Southwest Waterfront community.

WHAT DEVELOPERS COULD GIVE: From a $1.1 billion deal, $50,000 to $100,000 maximum to build out two playgrounds for the families in the community.

The website for developers Hoffman-Streuver, who won the lead in the $1.1 billion development Waterfront Development Project for the city states the following:

"Our vision is to create vital, thriving, activated spaces catering to visitors and residents alike. We envision active public spaces serving as destinations for outdoor activities, a clean and healthy river bustling with marine traffic, abundant retail catering to and fulfilling lifestyle needs, and great cultural and education landmarks. We want the Hoffman-Streuver team to build out the play structures at 6th and I Streets, S.W. and at 4th and G Streets, S.W., both of which are located wiithin a few blocks' walking distance of the waterfront that the team is developing.

Based upon research performed by our 'Friends' group, the total cost estimate for building out the playground structures at both sites is $50,000 to $100,000.
